1 Day Full Watercolour Workshop In Person

Categories In Person

Paint with confidence, from sketch to finished landscape.

What’s Included in the Workshop

Join me for a full day of calm, creative exploration — from observing the landscape to bringing it to life on paper.

This one-day workshop is perfect for beginners or those returning to watercolour who want hands-on guidance, clear structure, and the joy of painting in a relaxed, supportive setting.

Each workshop is limited to 10 participants, allowing me to give everyone personal attention and guidance. This keeps the atmosphere relaxed, friendly, and never overwhelming.

All materials are provided, including the exact same paints, brushes, palette, and paper that I use myself — so you can simply turn up, relax, and enjoy the day.

Morning: Exploring and Understanding the Landscape

We begin the day out on location, soaking in the sights, colours, and atmosphere of the landscape.

You’ll learn how to use tonal sketching to understand shape, light, and depth — the foundation for a strong painting.
It’s a peaceful, hands-on morning that helps you slow down, observe with clarity, and truly see the beauty in the world around you.

Midday: Lunch at the Gallery Studio

After our morning outdoors, we return to my gallery studio for a delicious lunch.
It’s a time to relax, chat, and share what you’ve discovered so far — a lovely way to recharge before the afternoon session.

Afternoon: Painting the Scene, Step-by-Step

After lunch, we begin to paint the same landscape we explored earlier, step-by-step together in the studio.
You’ll learn how to bring your morning sketch to life with colour, depth, and atmosphere, building your confidence and understanding as we go.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a stunning watercolour painting (mounted free of charge) that you can proudly take home — a memory of the day and a testament to your progress.

The Desired Outcome

Maybe you’ve always wanted to paint outdoors, but never known where to start.
Or perhaps you’ve tried watercolour before and found it confusing — the brushes, the washes, the fear of making a mistake.

This workshop is your chance to let all of that go.

Throughout the day, I’ll be there beside you, guiding each step so you can paint with clarity and confidence — not worry or hesitation.
You’ll walk away not only with a beautiful painting, but with the calm assurance that you can paint, and that it feels as rewarding as it looks.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

No — everything you’ll need is provided. Paints, brushes, palettes, paper, masking fluid — all the same materials I use myself.

Not at all. This workshop is designed for complete beginners and those returning to watercolour after a break.

If the weather isn’t suitable for outdoor sketching, we’ll work from photographs and reference material in the studio — so the day will still run smoothly and enjoyably.

Yes! A plentiful lunch is provided as part of the day. You’ll also have refreshments throughout the workshop.

Spaces are limited to ensure everyone gets personal guidance and attention. I keep the group size small so you’ll always have plenty of one-to-one help throughout the day.

You’ll be absolutely fine — I’ll guide you every step of the way. By the end of the day, you’ll be amazed at what you can create.

Student Testimonials

The transformations you’ll see below come from real students who began exactly where you are now — nervous, unsure, and often doubting if they could ever paint something they’d be proud of.

Through this same step-by-step approach, they found clarity, confidence, and joy in their painting — creating beautiful results that speak for themselves.

“I started watercolour painting a few years ago, in my late fifties, after never having shown any aptitude or interest really in art. I had an injury and a lot of free time, and saw my brother in law painting and just thought I would like to challenge myself to give it a go. I read a lot of books on watercolour and watched many hours of youtube videos. Eventually I decided that I needed in person classes so that I could see up close how the techniques work, and be part of a group learning process. After trying one class with someone who was undoubtedly a very good painter, but not such an effective teacher, I found Richard’s classes, after doing a few searches and checking reviews.
It was quite a way to travel for me but from the first lesson I liked Richard’s style of painting and his style of teaching. There were detailed lesson plans, paint and paper was provided for you ready to go, and it was nice to learn in the studio surrounded by lovely paintings which inspired you as to what might be possible…

Our Mission

Why We’re Here, and What Our Mission Is

We’re here to help people discover the joy and excitement that comes from painting in watercolour. Our mission is simple — to take away the fear, confusion, and frustration that stops so many from getting started. We believe everyone has creativity within them — it just needs the right guidance and encouragement to grow.

We Exist to Help Others Do and Achieve the Same

Over the years, I’ve watched hundreds of students transform from hesitant beginners into confident, capable painters. That journey never gets old — it’s why we do what we do. We exist to make that same transformation possible for anyone who’s ever dreamed of painting but didn’t know where to begin.

Whether You’re New or Experienced, We Can Help

If you’re new to watercolour, we’ll show you exactly where to start — step by step, without overwhelm. If you’ve painted before and are returning to watercolour, we’ll help you rebuild your confidence and refine your technique. Wherever you are in your creative journey, we’ll meet you there and guide you forward.
